A jungle classroom like no other
Calling all curious minds and nature-loving families! Plantasia Tropical Zoo is thrilled to introduce a brand-new opportunity for home-educated children and their families – the Jungle Explorer’s Trail.
Once a month, on the second Monday at 10am and 2pm, the jungle doors open for an adventure filled with learning, exploration, and discovery. Families can wander freely through our tropical rainforest, following the Jungle Explorer’s Trail to uncover the hidden wonders of the natural world.
The Jungle Explorer’s Trail will be available for several months before a new theme is introduced — so families can take their time enjoying this experience without missing out on anything new.
From classroom to canopy
Originally created for visiting school groups, the Jungle Explorer’s Trail has become a firm favourite with teachers and pupils alike. Its mix of fun questions and fascinating facts helps children learn about ecosystems, geography, and conservation while exploring our zoo.
We soon realised that home-educated families would value this trail just as much — offering all the same learning opportunities in a relaxed, self-guided format. Now, home-educating parents can enjoy the same high-quality educational experience with the flexibility to explore at their own pace.
A learning adventure in every corner
Step inside Swansea’s warm and wild indoor rainforest and be surrounded by lush greenery, the sound of trickling waterfalls, and the calls of exotic creatures. As you make your way along the winding pathways, children can follow educational signs dotted around the zoo to find the answers to their Jungle Explorer’s Trail questions.
They’ll learn about the layers of the rainforest, discover animal adaptations, explore the concept of predator and prey, and find out how plants and animals depend on each other to survive.
All answers are found on signs around the zoo, and the trail is available in English or Welsh, making it a fun and inclusive experience for everyone.

Why we created this special offer
At Plantasia Tropical Zoo, education and conservation are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that learning about nature should be hands-on, inclusive, and inspiring.
Home-educated families often learn in creative and flexible ways, so this new opportunity offers both structure and freedom — blending interactive learning with real-life encounters. The Jungle Explorer’s Trail encourages children to read, think, observe, and question — helping to spark curiosity and a lifelong love of wildlife.
What’s included
Each child receives their own trail sheet and pencil, a certificate for completing the challenge, and a free Magic Memories digital photo to capture their adventure. Printed photo booklets are also available to purchase as a keepsake.
Tickets are £4.50 per child (ages 3–15), and one adult goes free with up to two paying children. Additional adults are welcome at standard admission rates.
Did you know? The tropical climate inside Plantasia is carefully controlled to create the perfect conditions for our rainforest plants and animals – a warm, humid environment all year round!

Whether your children are fascinated by reptiles, budding botanists, or simply love exploring, the Home-Educated Families: Jungle Explorer’s Trail offers a unique way to combine learning and play in a living rainforest environment. The current trail runs for several months before being refreshed with a new theme.
Sessions take place on the second Monday of each month at 10am and 2pm, during term time only. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
