200+ YEARS OF ALFRED RUSSEL WALLACE: A CELEBRATION
Celebrate with us, the life of Alfred Russel Wallace, the Forgotten Evolutionist
Who is he, and why are we celebrating?
Born in Wales over 200 years ago, Alfred Russel Wallace grew up to be one of the most important Naturalists who ever lived, but one you have probably never heard of!
In the Golden Age of exploration and discovery, Wallace travelled the rainforests of the World, and along with his more famous compatriot, Charles Darwin, developed theories of Natural Selection and Evolution. We have all heard of Darwin but why do most of us not know Wallace?
Find out at Plantasia Tropical Zoo’s treehouse exhibition space. It has been transformed into a fabulous representation of Alfred Russel Wallace’s jungle research hut in the Malay Archipelago, where you can learn of his fascinating tales and discoveries, and even become an Explorer yourself; which hat will you wear?
This amazing exhibition space has been developed with Museum Wales, and is free with all general admission tickets…..
Calling all school teachers!
We invite you to explore our Alfred Russel Wallace – The Forgotten Evolutionist exhibition, with your class for a unique educational opportunity that aligns with the national curriculum of Wales. This exhibition connects the fascinating history of evolution with local Welsh heritage, as Alfred Russel Wallace, born in Wales, was a pioneering figure in the theory of evolution. Additionally, our brand new Giants of the Past installation showcases an impressive collection of prehistoric replica skeletons and fossils, offering further insight into the evolution of life on Earth. Both exhibitions are not only designed for the general public but also serve as an excellent resource for educators seeking to enrich their students’ understanding of evolutionary biology.
