WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

It’s here – World Environment Day 2023!

This annual event, which is celebrated on June 5th every year, is a day to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.

This year’s theme for World Environment Day is “Ecosystem Restoration” (#BeatPlasticPollution), which is focused on the conservation of the world’s diverse ecosystems. Many species of plants and animals are facing extinction due to human activities such as deforestation, overfishing, and pollution. It’s important to take action now to preserve these species and ecosystems.

One of the most effective ways to protect biodiversity is to reduce human activities that can have a negative impact on the environment. This includes reducing the amount of energy we consume, reducing our reliance on single-use plastics, and increasing green infrastructure. We can also make a difference by supporting organizations that are focused on conservation efforts.

The problem with plastic:

Plastic takes an extremely long time to decompose. Just one plastic bottle can last for up to 500 years!

Plastic also contains toxins that are harmful to wildlife.

“Every minute, the equivalent of one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our ocean. Approximately 7 billion of the 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic produced from 1950-2017 became plastic waste, ending up in landfills or dumped.” – www.unep.org

World Environment Day 2023 is a great opportunity to take stock of the steps we’ve taken to reduce our impact on the environment. It’s also a chance to set new goals and commitments to make a positive difference.

How will you celebrate World Environment Day 2023? Perhaps you’ll join a community clean-up effort, switch to green energy sources, or donate to an environmental conservation organization. Whatever action you take, be sure to share it with us on social media (@plantasiaswansea #GrowYourImagination #TyfuEichDychymyg) and let others know how you’re helping to protect biodiversity.

Let’s make World Environment Day 2023 our most successful one yet – together, we can make a real difference in protecting the planet!
